Q&A
1. What Vietnamese “dialect” do you teach?
Vietnamese grammar and core vocabulary do not differ systematically across regions or social groups, so linguists do not classify Vietnamese as having separate “dialects.” Instead, Vietnamese has regional accents. In practice, speakers with different accents generally understand one another, much as English speakers understand accents from the UK, the US, Australia, Ireland, and elsewhere.
I speak Vietnamese with a Hanoi accent and teach standard Vietnamese grammar to help students communicate with Vietnamese speakers in different regions of Vietnam and overseas. For more information on regional accents, see : https://www.t-a-m.dk/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/We-Can-Hear-History-Resonate-in-Every-Intonation-of-the-Vietnamese-People.pdf.
2. Who attends your Vietnamese classes?
My classes include adult Danes, who are second- or third-generation Vietnamese immigrants, as well as Danes and other residents of Denmark with family or business ties to Vietnam. Learners bring a range of Vietnamese accents and vocabulary, including northern, southern, central, Danish-influenced, and mixed varieties. I welcome adults interested in learning Vietnamese for any purpose.
3. What Vietnamese learning materials are available, and how much do they cost?
I provide selected customised learning materials free of charge. You may use digital copies or print them. You are also welcome to use your own resources or apps to support your Vietnamese learning.
4. Do I have to attend every session and complete a lot of homework?
The programmes are flexible and customised. You are welcome to tell me about your specific needs so I can adapt the teaching outline accordingly.
5. Where can I find more information about you and your Vietnamese teaching?
